As part of reforms aimed at strengthening the Quality Infrastructure (Accreditation & Standards & Metrology) in Tunisia to support the Tunisian economy in view to strengthen its partnership with the EU, and to meet the needs industry and society, particularly in terms of consumer protection and the promotion of industry and innovation, the National Metrology "ANM" was created under law No. 2008-12 of 11 February 2008 on metrology, in particular Article 15 (bis), and became operational on 1 January 2009.
Institution that brings together all the components of metrology (legal metrology, industrial metrology and scientific metrology), and prerogatives for the following tasks:
- Implementation of the strategic development of the national policy in the field of metrology,
- Coordinating the activities of various departments in the field of metrology,
- Representation of Tunisia in international and regional organizations active in the field of metrology, participation in their technical work and management of cooperation programs with these organizations,
- Implementation of training and technical assistance in the field of metrology, and participation in the development of national training programs in this field, in order to help education institutions and training centers,
- Developmentof Technological metrology .
- Establishment of standards and technical guidelines relating to metrology and publication in coordination with the National Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property,
- Information dissemination and promotion of research in the field of metrology
- Definition of requirements necessary for the establishment and implementation of national standards that can reproduce the measurement units of the International System of Units SI can be touched,
- Definition of requirements necessary for the establishment and publication of rules that produce units of measurement can not be materialized.
- Control of the production, preservation and dissemination of national standards and the management of research and studies for their development,
- Organization of work inter-comparison between national standards and international standards and, where appropriate, adapt national standards to international standards,
- Connection of measuring instruments to national standards
- Technology transfer in the field of metrology research to industrial application cases,
- Completion of approval testing of models measuring instrument and development related decisions,
- Technical activities relating to legal metrology, including the definition of technical specifications and metrological measuring instruments, execution of technical expertise and operations and periodic verification of measuring instruments and control of prepackaged ,
- Study records import and export measuring instruments and expertise when needed,
- Study records of approvals agencies operations on legal metrological control of measuring instruments, their repairs and installations, as well as monitoring the activities of accredited organizations,
- Finding violations of the provisions of the regulations relating to metrology.
